BEYOND BOUNDARIES
As the year 2025 draws to a close, S-Gallery and choice art Curations will present “Beyond Boundaries,” a group exhibition composed of three solo shows by Whi Boo Kim, Christian Spruell, and Otha “Vakseen” Davis III. The title “Beyond Boundaries” reflects how, while starting from the shared realm of abstraction, each artist employs different materials and modes of expression to develop a distinctive visual language and artistic world—ultimately transcending the conventional boundaries of either abstraction or figuration.
The three participating artists pursue approaches that go beyond traditional forms, expectations, and conventions, visualizing their ideas and ideals with a free, unconstrained perspective. While each work speaks in a different language, together they form a mirror reflecting our inner selves and everyday experiences. At the intersection of their works lies the essence of abstraction, where control and spontaneity, reality and imagination converge.
Through this exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the artists’ worlds and to experience the intentions and meanings behind their works. While appreciating these high-quality pieces, audiences and artists alike can share in the deep essence of humanity, moving beyond a simple act of viewing to a true dialogue and mutual understanding. It will also be a wonderful way to enrich the approaching Christmas holidays.
The exhibition opening will take place on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 3pm to 7pm at 5151 Romaine St., Los Angeles, CA 90029 (Romaine St. & Harvard Blvd).
The exhibition runs from December 6 - 30, 2025.
The gallery is open Tues. – Fri., 12- 4 pm by appointment and Sat., 12- 5pm open to the public.

Christian Spruell
Christian Spruell is a multidisciplinary artist who explores the essence and narratives of everyday life through a dynamic combination of materials and techniques. He portrays individuals who live authentically beyond societal expectations—his so-called “Hidden Heroes”—and expresses this theme primarily through abstraction while engaging multiple genres. Incorporating both modern technologies and traditional oil-painting methods, Spruell’s work blends humor, organic movement, and subtle social satire, offering a contemporary and contemplative visual language that invites viewers to reflect.
Otha “Vakseen” Davis III
Otha “Vakseen” Davis III is a visual artist, creator, and music producer who builds his unique worldview through distinctive compositions and expression. His signature series, Vanity Pop, combines photorealism, Cubism, and fashion design elements using only acrylic paint, exploring human identity, femininity, and social ideals. Through his work, Vakseen redefines notions of beauty and self, offering a compelling visual discourse on diversity and empowerment in contemporary society. His bold imagery and innovative visual language leave a lasting impression on viewers.
Whi Boo Kim
Whi Boo Kim is an artist who has devoted more than sixty years to his practice, embedding the emotions of everyday life and the experience of immigration into layered traces of materials and bold color. His signature Geo Series emerges from a repetitive process of building, scraping, attaching, and removing fragments and textures—capturing cycles of creation and disappearance, and revealing a record of his inner journey rather than a simple visual outcome. Within his work lies the solitude, quiet resilience, and deep affection shaped by his life as a first-generation immigrant and the head of a household, reflecting the grounded strength of an artist who has continued his path well into his eighties.
